Your Role:

  • Prepare drawings, specifications and reports necessary to deliver assigned projects.
  • Design building systems following the requirements of municipal or provincial building codes and other applicable standards.
  • Check layouts and services for continuity; develop various mechanical systems layouts in coordination with the structural, architectural, and electrical components of a building.
  • Develop layouts and design of mechanical building systems such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning, fire protection systems, plumbing and draining systems, and specialized plumbing systems (natural gas, fuel oil, medical gas, etc.) Coordinate with other disciplines as required.
  • Develop layouts and designs for building mechanical rooms, including but not limited to boiler designs, chiller and cooling tower designs and make-up air unit / air-handling unit designs. Coordinate with other disciplines as required.
  • Create project specific details to clarify project scope.
  • Prepare calculations to size ductwork, gas, HVAC, piping, plumbing and drainage. Incorporate calculations into drawings.
  • Prepare calculations to size equipment and prepare equipment schedules that are project specific. Coordinate with necessary project consultants to review equipment.
  • Liaise with all project consultants; coordinate design requirements with all disciplines and supervise drawings between other disciplines; check layouts of mechanical services for interferences with other components of the building such as structure, ceilings, etc.
  • Design mechanical building systems directly in CAD; adhering to company CAD standards.
  • Liaise with suppliers and/or manufacturers for design support, equipment and component selection.
  • Assist in construction administration by reviewing equipment shop drawings and conducting site visits, site reviews and preparing change notices, site instructions, etc.
  • Any other tasks assigned by Principals or Project Managers required to assist in the completion.

What You'll Bring To TCG:

  • Two to four years of direct industry experience in the field of mechanical building services. Retrofit experience is preferred.
  • Diploma / Degree from a mechanical building services technical program or an engineering program.
  • P.Eng Designation in Ontario is Preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection Systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the National Building Code of Canada and the Ontario Building Code.
  • Good working knowledge of ASHRA and CSA/ULC standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a drive and ability to collaborate and problem solve as part of a team.
  • Ability to utilize both verbal and written forms of communication to effectively communicate internally with colleagues as well as externally with clients.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects working in a fast-paced environment.

Building Envelope Lead Engineer

About the role:

The Building Envelope Lead Engineer is the go-to person for clients and will help build long-term relationships.  

This position will help grow the business through building internal knowledge systems and training our team of engineers and designers. The ideal candidate is well-rounded in building science and structural restoration, including knowledge in roofing, waterproofing, structural rehabilitation, masonry, windows, curtain walls, sealants, EIFS, and site pavements, and other cladding systems. The successful candidate has experience leading project teams with multiple levels of staff, as well as peer reviewing designs, specifications and reports.

Requirements:

  • Act as technical lead and senior peer reviewer on projects and be responsible for technical review of documents produced by other project managers and junior staff;
  • Undertake investigations and prepare technical reports for parking garages, roofing, building envelope, leakage assessments;
  • Prepare specifications and manage tendering process;
  • Procure new projects and clients through identifying business development opportunities and leading proposal efforts;
  • Attend industry events and help increase TCG’s technical profile in the industry;
  • Contribute to development of internal technical practice systems and training of junior staff;
  • Expedite projects from inception through the investigation, specification and construction stage;
  • Ensure timely and accurate invoicing, monitor receivables and be responsible for the financial health of the project;

  • Develop and design scalable and adaptable façade/envelope systems for buildings, including curtain walls, cladding, and glazing systems.
  • Design and oversee the manufacturing/fabrication and installation of building envelope systems.
  • Help expand the product offering of façade systems that are efficient, sustainable, and effective in managing heat, air, and moisture transfer.
  • Develop and review design documents, specifications, and manufacture or assembly drawings related to building envelope systems.
  • Assist in updating corporate standards, devise new innovative approaches, apply existing criteria in new manners, and draw conclusions for comparative situations as appropriate.
  • Work closely with architects, contractors, and other design professionals to ensure that building envelope systems are integrated seamlessly into the overall building design.
  • Collaborate and integrate with building partners, suppliers, and external engineering consultants.
  • Use computer modeling and simulation software to evaluate and optimize building envelope performance.
  • Research new building envelope materials, technologies, and systems to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to project teams during all design and manufacture or assembly phases.
  • Conduct building envelope assessments to evaluate the condition of existing systems and recommend repair or replacement strategies.
  • Conduct site inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with building codes.
  • Conduct field inspections and testing of building envelope systems to ensure they meet design specifications and performance requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including identifying opportunities to streamline processes, improve quality, and reduce waste.
  • Comply with all health and safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Comply with our administrative policies and procedures as set forth from time to time.
  • Contribute to team efforts.
  • Complete other duties as we may request which are consistent with your abilities and responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Post-Secondary Education in Engineering or Architectural Technology;
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience as a consultant in building science;
  • P.Eng. designation is preferred, but experienced practitioners with other professional designations will be considered;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing and presentation skills;
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills and adaptability to shifting priorities;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • A team player approach to problem solving;
  • The successful candidate must possess a valid class G driver’s license.

Mechanical Project Manager

About the role:

  • Prepare and review engineering calculations including building heat gain/loss calculations, system friction losses, energy analysis, equipment and material sizing and project cost estimates.
  • Responsible for the selection of equipment and systems.

  • Create Energy Models from building specifications.
  • Provides construction administration services during construction.

  • In depth knowledge of Design Standards and Codes such as OBC, ASHRAE 90.1, 62.1, CSA B149.1, B44, B52, NFPA 10, 13, 14, 96.
  • Knowledge of commercial building automation systems and DDC controls systems.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and commercial HVAC load calculation software.
  • Access to transportation for site reviews and inspections.
  • Any other reasonable duties that may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Applied Science (Mechanical Engineering).
  • Strong understanding of engineering theory including Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics and Fluid Dynamics.
  • Superior time management skills. Candidate will work on multiple projects for multiple supervisors with specific time allotments for each.
  • Excellent communications skills. Candidate must communicate professionally and effectively with clients, contractors, peer consultants and fellow employees through various formal documents, email, on the phone and in person.
  • Strong team player and interpersonal skills. Candidate will be involved in teams of various sizes and work with people from various professions and background including, but not limited to: architects, engineers, project managers, CAD staff, contractors and inspectors.  
  • Candidate must be able to organize and coordinate work between team members and keep the project moving forward.
  • Be able to work efficiently under varying amounts of supervision.

About the role:

Reporting to the VP, you will be responsible for managing several mechanical and electrical personnel and projects. The role will have a broad focus encompassing strategic planning, business development, client management, project delivery, operations, and leadership.
